Case Study: Braxton’s Journey

She/Her - 20 Years Old

Braxton’s First Step

Braxton came to Bright Spot struggling with an unfulfilling relationship with her boyfriend, constant anxiety, and unrealistic work demands that would make anyone cringe.

Braxton was connected with our therapist, Rachel, to start digging in and creating Braxton’s Roadmap to Wellness.

Working with Rachel

Braxton and Rachel worked together to identify where the frustration with her relationship originated. Braxton discovered that her perfectionistic traits created an imbalance in her relationship. Braxton realized she may have girl bossed a little too close to the sun and in the process of healing from burn out learned to recognize that she never allowed her boyfriend to see how much she was struggling. She was often solving his problems and being super supportive while at the same time, unknowingly closing the door on any opportunity for her boyfriend to support her.

With Rachel’s guidance and support, Braxton practiced being vulnerable in session and in her life. She worked with Rachel to figure out how these patterns also made her feel undervalued at work and in her family.

Rachel and Braxton dug deeper and discovered how conflict from her parents’ divorce and “messy childhood” made it hard for her to trust or feel safe as an adult. Braxton realized that to heal and let go of her perfectionism, she had to figure out how to be present and content instead of busy.

Teaming Up with Madison for SSP

Rachel suggested they team up with Bright Spot specialist, Madison, to use the Safe and Sound Protocol to help create building blocks for safety in her own body and to pave the way for EMDR to heal from childhood issues.

Braxton worked with Madison as a specialist to gain the tools she needed to stop her body and brain from always feeling like she needed to be on high alert.  As Braxton’s cortisol levels dropped, the physiological aspects of her trauma began to heal on a deeper level allowing positivity to flow into her life. Through this shift, Braxton noticed that she had more energy and felt less fatigued. She wasn’t as stressed out by sounds and situations that had been difficult in the prior to treatment.

Bringing in Andrea for EMDR

Madison, Rachel and Braxton all noticed her progress and knew the next step on Braxton’s roadmap to wellness was starting EMDR with Bright Spot Specialist Andrea, to help Braxton heal the deep childhood wounds from feeling out-of-control, scared and unprotected during her family’s tumultuous years.

Braxton loved EMDR and felt relief in putting her past into a new context and hoped that she could start engaging in her life without old wounds holding her back from the life she deserves.

Rachel’s Continued Support

Braxton and Rachel continued pushing forward using new mindfulness and meditation tools, including Unyte’s meditation tool, to give Braxton real-time feedback on how to help herself relax and be present.

With this new resilience, for the first time Braxton felt excited to meditate and enjoy her life. She practiced and was able to respond with confidence when she experienced a rush of racing thoughts and to-do lists in her quiet time. She could be present and relaxed even during stressful times at work and at home.

Graduation & Gratitude

Through Bright Spot’s individualized Roadmap to Wellness Braxton found tools and support that helped her gain peace and build a life that works for her. She graduated from therapy and sends Rachel updates from time-to-time with gratitude for how she’s living her life.
